Find Your Kind Of Food Where Ever You Go | Vegan, Paleo, Gluten Free

We all love food right? Some people love it differently though.  We decided to make a list of places to find whatever your heart desires.  Even if your not 100% paleo or vegan it is still fun to try different foods.  If you’ve been pushing the meat train for a while it might do you some good to stuff your face with vegan food once in a while, know what I mean?

Anyway here we go!

Vegan food Directories

vegan food directory

Find Great vegan food at – I put this one to the test and was extremely impressed by what it brought up.  In one search of my city I found several shops, a TON of restaurants and a few things in between.  It will specify when you hover over the listing whether it’s vegetarian friendly, vegan, a shop ect. So to find local vegan foods and resources check them out!

vegan food finder is another great vegan source.  While the site is less on frills it is well researched, has great vegan resources, and is reviewed well by visitors.  I love knowing what to expect when going somewhere so seeing actual reviews from people who have tried the location out is essential, and that is where Veg Guide thrives.

Paleo Food Directories

Paleo is still a little hard to find.  Many places don’t exactly cater to the paleo eater but have options to make it a lot easier!

Paleo local is a great resource for finding paleo friendly restaurants in certain cities. It is still a little limited but on the homepage if you know of one you’d like added to the site you can submit it there.

paleo magazine | restaurant guide

Paleo Magazine has this guide to help you eat paleo where ever you go. It includes 18 tips to eat paleo at restaurants.  Here are a couple to wet your lips.

  • Tell them you have a gluten alergy.  I mean don’t we all really?
  • Almost any restaurant will sub a side for vegetables, you just gotta ask!

Find Local Farmers Markets

USDA logo

USDA Farmers market directory – Believe it or not the old USDA has a pretty robust directory of farmers markets in your area.  I did a local search and found 8 farmers markets within 10 miles of me. That’s a lot of local food.  When you click info on the listing it gives you the type of vendors, address, days and times the market is open, and contact information for the market.

Gluten Free Restaurant Directories list restaurants that serve gluten free meals if you want to take it up a notch you can check out this small but helpful list of restaurants that are completely gluten free at

Just eating well

Eat well guide

Actually Find Out Who Called You | Yes It’s Free

Happens all the time.  You get a call from a number you've never seen before, and you pause to think who it could be. It's frustrating.  Sometimes you don't have time for a nonsense call.  But it could be somebody you'd really like to talk to.  There is now a secret weapon to know who it is, so you can call them right back.

This is spy dialer

Find out who called you

Spy dialer home screen

This is the best tool for finding out who a phone number belongs to.  When used it gives you the option to look up the callers name, photo if the number is associated with any social media accounts, but the best feature is the voicemail feature, If selected spy dialer will anonymously call the number hit # going strait to VM, then you have the option to listen to the callers voicemail.

How It Works

The voicemail feature is pretty self explanatory.  Spy dialer also looks at public records and social media to find pictures (honestly of all the times I've used it, it's never actually fetched a picture for me)  Many users also share their address books from their phones to get more free uses out of it.

The service is free for up to 3 uses daily.  100 if you share your address book (who needs 100 calls though) and unlimited if you pick up their $9 monthly subscription which has some other perks as well.  The service is also supported by Google ads.

This service has been extremely valuable for me and many others.  I hope you find it useful too. Go check them out at Let us know if there are any other ways to find out who the owners of these unknown numbers are in the comments!

Predict The Weather | For Real

great weather

Two things I truly love are science and great weather.  I watch my weather apps constantly and make plans for the outdoors when the weather is the best.  Like most people the sunshine gives a boost in mood as well as vitamin D.

To often though I look at the app and see something like this

weather screenshot

But instead of getting this

I end up getting this

Every now and then The Weather man gets It wrong.

Even though technology is getting more advanced by the day in the field of meteorology sometimes mother nature makes up her mind to do whatever she wants.

The one thing I have to be accurate most often is my own weather station, most important for predicting the weather is my glass barometer.

Ever seen one of these before?

It's a barometer.  Some people call them glass barometers, or Galileo barometers. Super easy to use, just fill it with water and food coloring.

When the barometric pressure gets low, it's an indicator that the weather is going to get worse or a storm is coming.  When the pressure rises, it's a sure indicator that the weather is getting better.

With this device you can watch the barometric pressure change in real time.  When the water rises the pressure is dropping when it drops the pressure is rising.

These things really work.   Literally just the other day it was beautiful outside, even the weather report was saying we were in the clear.  My wife commented that the pressure was really low.  Within a few hours the wind had picked up big time and stayed for several hours.   Having this little thing in my house peaked my interest in predicting the weather and meteorology.

My next purchase

In an effort be a more of a weather geek, I picked a full fledged electronic weather station.

Predict the weather | Weather station

These are a lot of fun, you can pick one up on amazon for around $40ish.   They give you more data, are pretty accurate with the weather predictions and look pretty cool too! However when it comes to predicting the weather my glass barometer wins every time.

The Storm Glass

Storm Glass

Being a science nerd, you get nerdy gifts. This is one of them.  It's called the Fitzroys Storm Glass.  It will supposedly tell you about the upcoming weather patterns by the crystal formations inside the glass.

I was curious and hopeful for this one.  It has an impressive history being used on the HMS beagle.  This was the ship that took Darwin and his crew to those islands with the finches or something.  Apparently on the ship they observed that if the liquid was clear the weather would be clear, if it was cloudy the weather would be cloudy too.

Based on my observations and the same as many others is that temperature is the only thing to get the crystals to change.  and since my place is usually right around 70 degrees, I don't see much action from it.

The weather can be crazy and hard to predict.  Weather apps are fairly accurate but if you want to get geeky and really be able to see whats going to happen on your own get a glass barometer or weather station.

What have you tried to predict the weather?  Any hacks we should know about? Comment below!

How To Clean Your Laptop

Face it. Our laptops are disgusting.  They go with us everywhere and crumbs hairs and dust settle nicely into the keyboard which isn't exactly a cake walk to clean.  Not to mention how the screens take to someones greasy finger touching it.

Things you'll need:

  • Regular dish soap
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Microfiber cloth
  • A pipe cleaner (you know those fuzzy bendy things)
  • A can of compressed air

This video from Clean My Space pretty much covers it.  Please comment with photos of your squeaky clean laptops or questions if you have any!

Easy DIY All Purpose Cleaners

I had an urge to clean my house the other day.  I went to grab the Lysol all purpose cleaner like I normally would, but realized I was fresh out.  I have always been drawn to the DIY kind of thing and would rather use something where I actually knew what the ingredients were, so I set out to make my own cleaner at home.  There are A TON of ideas online so I began to test them and see which ones worked and which ones didn't.  So for your enjoyment and DIY cleaning education here is what I found.

What comes up when I search Google?

DIY all purpose google results

Funny thing is this is entirely ineffective as a cleaner.  You see when mixing baking soda with vinegar, the two react.  The result of this reaction is sodium acetate and water, not a good cleaner.  but you can make "hot ice" or even DIY hand warmers with it.  more on that later.

Freshen Up Smelly Shoes

cleaning stinky shoes

We've all been there, your favorite shoes just become to stinky to wear.  You go to Google for the solution, try baking soda they say, stick them in the freezer, even rubbing alcohol. nothing works.  Let's face it, there is one real solution that is going to work.

Let's go over some of the popular ways out there and why they don't work.

1. Baking soda

Yes baking soda will absord odors.  That's why you find it in most refrigerators in America, but your shoes stink for a different reason. They are dirty.

2. Freezing Them

The theory is freezing your shoes will kill the bacteria that is causing the problem.  If you were to put a smelly sock in the freezer would it come out smelling like flowers? NO! again they are dirty and need cleaning.

So What Will Work?

Just like when you are dirty, you take a shower, your shoes need a good bath.

Gather Materials

You will need:

  1. A sink with a plug (Preferably a kitchen sink with 2 basins)
  2. Laundry soap (liquid works best)
  3. vinegar (if you have hard water in your area)
